10 fighters killed in Sri Lanka clashes |

At least 10 combatants belonging to the Tamil Tiger rebels and government troops were killed in separate clashes in the island's embattled north, defense officials said Wednesday.
Six members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were killed in he forward defense lines in the northern Vavuniya district Tuesday evening.
The Army had attacked a rebel group who were trying to infiltrate into government area. A soldier died in the battle.
In the Welioya district's Kalyanapura area in the northern province at least three Tiger rebels were killed by military fire also on Tuesday evening officials said.
Clashes occur regularly in the north ever since the government claimed in mid July that the entire eastern province had been free of the LTTE rebels.
The LTTE have called their eastern reversal a tactical withdrawal and have vowed to attack military targets in retaliation.
