The final stage of the "Peace Mission 2007" anti-terror drill, sponsored by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), in Chelyabinsk in Russia's Ural Mountains region, will be held on schedule, general directors of the joint drill said on Thursday in Chelyabinsk.
The headquarters are checking preparations for Friday's live fire exercise, "including whether the troops are clear with their tasks tomorrow," Admiral Vladimir Moltensky, Russian general director of the joint drill, told a news conference.
All sides have finished deployment and fixed steps of the exercise, Moltensky said. "The three joint drills on Aug. 6, Aug. 11 and Aug. 13 were conducted in a superior state," he said.
Chinese general director of the exercises Xu Qiliang highly praised the cooperation of all involved troops in the drills.
The more practical ways of organization of the Russian side in preparation for the exercise, and the experiences in its military modernization are worth learning, Xu said.
The exercises will not only help friendship grow among troops of SCO member states, but also help the modernization of armed forces of the member states, Xu added.
The exercises, staged by the six member countries of the SCO, have been carried out first in China's Urumqi, and then in Chelyabinsk, from Aug. 9 to Aug. 17.
About 4,000 troops and 80 aircraft from China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are participating in the joint exercise.
The joint anti-terror drill, the first of its kind involving military forces from all SCO members, will be observed by heads of state of the six nations on Aug. 17.
The SCO was founded in 2001 from a looser regional alliance set up in 1996. It groups Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China and Russia. Mongolia, Pakistan, India and Iran are observer countries at SCO meetings.
