Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is making further political efforts to coordinate the stance of Arab and Western countries in a bid to render a U.S.-proposed Mideast peace conference a success, local media reported Friday.

The aim of Egypt's efforts of coordinating stance is to urge the United States to take further steps towards activation of the peace process in the Middle East, al-Ahram newspaper quoted Mubarak as saying.

The key to make the proposed conference a success is to reach a specific agenda before the opening of the international meeting, Mubarak said.

Meanwhile, the official MENA news agency reported that Mubarak will have talks next week with King Abdullah II of Jordan on the latest regional developments, during which they are expected to crystallize an Arab stance on the conference's agenda.

Mubarak said he would also meet with Tony Blair, the envoy of the international Quartet on Mideast, which groups the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia.

At the European level, Mubarak will meet Italian Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema to encourage Washington to take more positive stances for the Mideast peace, said the report.

On July 16, U.S. President George W. Bush proposed that an international conference would be held this fall, which would include Israel, the Palestinians and some neighboring Arab states, to help resume the stalled Middle East peace talks.
