A Sri Lankan court has allowed the further detention of a woman Tamil Tiger suspect for gathering information on important economic nerve centers in the capital Colombo, the police said Sunday.
The Colombo Magistrate's Court on Friday allowed the suspect arrested in the northern town of Vavuniya to be detained until Sept. 27, the Police Terrorism Investigation Unit sources (TID) said.
The interrogation of her had led to more information on the involvement of more Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) woman cadres in the information network, the police said.
The rebels in late July had vowed to attack the city's economic and military targets as reprisals for the troops taking over the island's restive eastern province.
The government troops since the September of last year have recorded a string of military victories in the eastern province. The rebels called their eastern reversals a tactical withdrawal.
The defense officials also said on Sunday that two young rebel cadres, aged 16 and 24, had surrendered to the Police Special Task Force (STF) at Thirukkovil in the eastern Ampara district on Saturday.
They have claimed harassment from rebel hierarchy as the reason for the surrender. The military clashes have now shifted to the island's north and the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse on Friday stated that his current campaign against terrorism will continue until it is completely eliminated.
More than 5,000 people have so far died in the escalation of the conflict since December 2005.
