UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Monday that he was encouraged with the full support on the resolution of the situation in Darfur from all leaders in the region.
Ban told reporters at the UN Headquarters in New York that his latest visit to African countries, including Sudan, Chad and Libya, was "very useful and constructive in generating a momentum to bring an early resolution of the situation in Darfur."
"I was assured the full support from all the leaders in the region, including Presidents of Sudan, Chad and (Libyan) leader Qaddafi and leaders in the region -- Egypt and Eritrea -- and all other countries," he said.
The UN chief, who just finished his week-long trip to Africa, said he was encouraged, stressing that "we must build upon this progress to bring peace and security and prosperity to these people."
He added that all the leaders in the region have agreed that " we should make this negotiation as a final phase for final settlement of this issue."
Meanwhile, the UN chief, who paid a visit to the future site of the hybrid operation, UNAMID, during his stay in Sudan said " initial preparations are going on well."
"President Bashir of Sudan has assured me of his government's full support -- logistical, administrative areas, including some additional land which may be required for operations," he said. " We must build upon this momentum."
In addition, the Secretary-General encouraged leaders of South and North Sudan to faithfully implement the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, which was signed in 2005 between the Sudanese government and the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army ( SPLM/A).
Ban expected the parties concerned will faithfully implement the Agreement, which he called "the core in this issue."
"At the same time, the leaders in the region, particularly Sudan, should make their utmost efforts, to make this political process move smoothly, keeping the cessation of hostilities and helping the humanitarian assistance flow smoothly, without any hindrance," he added.
The UN chief and President Bashir announced in a joint communique issued at the end of their meeting earlier Thursday that the peace talks between the Sudanese government and the Darfur rebel movements would resume on Oct. 27 in Libya.
Ban arrived in Khartoum last Monday on his first official visit in the African country since he took office in January this year. He held two meetings with the Sudanese president and paid a field tour in southern Sudan and Darfur.
