The Iraqi police found the beheaded body of a member of a pro-U.S. and Iraqi government alliance which fights al-Qaida in Iraq network in Babel province in south of Baghdad on Saturday, a provincial police source said.
The body of Fadil Ali al-Janabi, member of the Awakening Council of Jurf al-Sakhar area, was found beheaded and showing signs of torture dumped in the nearby town of Iskandriyah, some 50 km south of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Sunni tribesmen in several Sunni dominated provinces have formed alliances to fight the Qaida in Iraq fighters following rifts emerged between both sides because of the al-Qaida adherence to a hardline form of Sunni Islam and indiscriminate killings.
Separately, the source said that unknown gunmen shot dead a policeman in the morning in the Mahawil town, 80 km south of Baghdad.
Also in the province, the police said they picked up another beheaded body for a student in the town of Mussayyib, 60 km south of Baghdad, the source added.
The cities scattered on the main road from Baghdad to the city of Hilla, the capital of Babel province, is named the "Triangle of Death", Which is the hot bed of insurgency and sectarian violence that claimed the lives of many Iraqis.
