U.S. President George W. Bush warned on Wednesday that a nuclear-armed Iran would be a threat to world peace and expressed hope that Russian President Vladimir Putin will brief him about his visit to Iran.

"I believe that if Iran had a nuclear weapon, it would be a dangerous threat to world peace," Bush said at a White House press conference.

Bush said when he met with Putin in Australia last month, Putin reconfirmed that he recognizes it is not in the world's interest for Iran to have the capacity to make a nuclear weapon.

"The thing I'm interested in is whether or not he continues to harbor the same concerns that I do," Bush said.

Washington has accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program. Iran has denied U.S. charges and insisted that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Russia has voiced strong opposition to any possible U.S. military attack against Iran.
