The Cambodian police Monday tightened the security in anticipation of the four-day state visit of Prime Minister Kim Yong Il of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), which will start on Thursday.
"We guarantee the security and safety for the DPRK senior delegation and we have already deployed the police in Phnom Penh city and other places where the delegation will pass," said Van Ry, deputy Phnom Penh police commander.
He did not give the number of the deployed police force, but added that "now in Phnom Penh, the police guard at every main street for this visit."
Min Khin, secretary general for the Organizing Committee of International and National Activities in Cambodia, said that there will be more than 3,000 civil servants and students standing along the streets to welcome the DPRK delegation when it arrives here.
According to an official press release, Kim will hold talks with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen, Senate President Chea Sim and National Assembly President Heng Samrin.
Both sides will sign a sea transportation and investment agreement to promote bilateral trade and economic ties.
While visiting the Angkor Wat temple in Siem Reap province, Kim will pay a visit to the Pyongyang Restaurant which is invested by a DPRK businessman.
