A latest report by the U.S. military said on Tuesday that Iran continues providing weapons and supplies to Shiite insurgents in Iraq.

"There has been no identified decrease in Iranian training and funding of illegal Shia militias in Iraq," the report from the Pentagon said.

"Tehran support for Shia militant groups who attack coalition and Iraq forces remains a significant impediment to progress towards stabilization," the report said.

Tensions are high between the United States and Iran over Washington's accusations that Iran is secretly developing nuclear weapons and helping Shiite militias in Iraq that target U.S. troops. Iran denies the charges.
