Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat on Thursday called on the international community to give the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, which is being revived, the real chance to be turned into a fact on the ground.
In an interview with Voice of Palestine radio, Erekat said he mainly urges the countries which participated in the U.S.-hosted peace conference in Annapolis, including the United Nations, "to help us and stand beside us to give the peace process the true chance it deserves."
"We try to work with the international community to force the Israeli government fulfill its commitments to make the peace process successful," Erekat said.
He asserted that the peace can't last unless Israel withdraws out of the territories which occupied in the 1967 war, creating a Palestinian statehood alongside Israel and resolving outstanding final-status issues.
As Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israel's Premier Ehud Olmert are going to meet in the day, Erekat said the discussions will focus on "removing the obstacles which prevents the final-status negotiations from going ahead, especially the settlement activities." Source: Xinhua
