Tunis is deeply worried about the situation in occupied Palestinian territories, especially the Gaza Strip, the Tunisian Foreign Ministry announced Monday.

A statement released by the ministry said that the deterioration of the situation in the occupied territories, especially the Gaza Strip, could trigger a humanitarian disaster.

Tunis opposes the blockade and the cutting off of the supply of daily essentials to the Palestinians and called for effective international interference to put an end to the suffering of the Palestinians, as well as for necessary protection to them, said the statement.

The continued deterioration of the situation in Gaza will pose a grave threat to the efforts to push forward the Middle East peace talks and the peace process, and will complicate situation in the region, it added.

The sole Gaza power plant Sunday was forced to shut down due to the Israeli blockade, plunging large parts of the Gaza strip into darkness. International organizations warned that medicine and oil supplies in hospitals in Gaza will also be exhausted in several days.
