Suicide bombing and violent incidents have claimed the lives of four people including a bomber and three civilians in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province over the past two days, a police officer said.
"Taliban insurgents in their latest wave of violence carried out a suicide attack against a NATO convoy in Jalai district Wednesday afternoon, leaving the bomber dead and causing no damage to the alliance," Syed Aqa Saqib, the police chief of Kandahar told Xinhua.
Four civilians nearby were injured in the explosion.
Saqib said that three civilians including a local worker of a road construction firm were killed Tuesday when roadside bombs planted by militants hit two civilians' vehicles in the troubled Jalai and Panjwai districts, respectively.
Two more civilians sustained injuries in the roadside bomb blasts, Saqib said.
Taliban militants, who have claimed responsibility for targeting NATO convoy and workers of the road construction company, have vowed to intensify attacks this year.
Conflicts and Taliban-related insurgency left more than 6,000 people dead in 2007. And observers predict more militant attacks in 2008 in Afghanistan. Source: Xinhua
