A paramilitary trooper was killed and four others were injured when insurgents detonated a bomb to ambush them in Thailand's southernmost province of Yala on Wednesday afternoon.
The five troopers were patrolling by a military vehicle in Jarosipoh village of Yala's Krong Penang district when the insurgents ambushed them by a roadside bomb soon after noon, local news network The Nation reported.
The insurgents also opened fire at them after detonating the homemade bomb but a company of border patrol police, who were stationed nearby, moved in to rescue them immediately, prompting the insurgents to retreat.

Meanwhile, in nearby Narathiwat Province, a 60-year-old resident was gunned down by unknown gunmen on a pick-up truck in Cho Ai Rong district on Wednesday.
