Deposed Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haneya on Thursday called for news procedures to be taken to facilitate the movement of patients and the stranded following tensions at a border crossing with Egypt.
The turmoil at Rafah crossing point between the Gaza Strip and Egypt was only "a summer cloud," Haneya, whose dismantled government still controls the Gaza Strip.
"Everything that had happened was spontaneous, not planned and was not meant to take place," he said a day after Egyptian police clashed with hundreds of Palestinians who tried to storm through Rafah border crossing.
Palestinian travelers threw rocks at the Egyptian forces on the crossing on Wednesday after being stuck for one day between the Egyptian and Palestinian gates of the crossing.
Following the violence, Egypt closed the crossing which was scheduled to open for three days to allow patients and stranded Palestinians to cross into Egypt.
Rafah crossing, the only passage for Gazans to the outside world that bypasses Israel, has been closed since Hamas took over Gaza Strip by force in June 2007.
