A court in Pakistan Friday directed the government to explain as to why the country's top nuclear scientist had been detained for four years.
Mrs. Hendrina Khan, wife of Qadeer Khan, approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) with a letter disputing government's claim that her husband was not under detention, the News Network International news agency reported.
The Islamabad High Court issued a notice to the Attorney General of Pakistan and directed him to file a statement in response to the questions raised in the application of Mrs Hendrina Khan.
Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Aslam gave the directives while taking up the application of Mrs. Hendrina Khan saying that her husband was in illegal detention.
The hearing was adjourned till July 15.
Qadeer Khan was put under house arrest in 2004 after he appeared on the state-run television, saying that he had transferred nuclear technology to other countries.
Khan recently said he did not transfer nuclear secrets outside Pakistan and that he had made statement on Pakistan TV for the sake of the country.
Mrs. Hendrina Khan said no body was allowed to meet the nuclear scientist freely which is against the spirit of justice. She added that her husband was not even allowed to offer prayers in the mosque which was unfair.
