Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej, who concluded his official visits to China and Brunei, returned to Bangkok Friday afternoon safely, despite an earlier claim that some group had plotted to seize him upon his arrival.
The plane boarding Samak landed at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport as scheduled, a day after the Thai premier said some ill-intentioned group was attempting to force his step-down from office with rumor that he would be arrested upon his return from overseas on Friday.
Thailand's Deputy National Police Commissioner Pol. Maj-Gen. Suraphon Tuanthong earlier on the day said the "plot" was a rumor.
"Police intelligence investigations have found no evidence of a planned seizure as the cases involving the premier are still in the courts and legal procedures are progressing," Suraphon was quoted by Thai News Agency as saying.
The senior police officer however conceded that First Region Police Command which oversees Samut Prakan province on the suburb of Bangkok where Suvarnabhumi airport is located has increased security at the airport prior to the premier's return. Source: Xinhua
