Timor Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta arrived Monday in Australian northern city of Darwin for further treatment, after an attempt to assassinate him.
The president, carried in by a Careflight plane, has been rushed to the Royal Darwin Hospital where surgeons are on standby to treat him, the ABC news said in its website.
A Careflight official said the president was in a critical condition on life support.
Ramos-Horta, who was shot in the arm and stomach at his home in Dili early Monday, underwent surgery at an Australian army hospital in Timor Leste before being taken to Australia for further treatment, officials said.
Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said earlier he was in a "very serious but stable" condition. Source: Xinhua
