Japan named "Doraemon" first animated ambassador |

Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura officially named the cartoon characters "Doraemon" (middle) and "Nobita" (right) at an appointment ceremony on March 19 in Japan's capital city, Tokyo. On that day, the popular Japanese cartoon character, "Doraemon," was appointed as Japan's first Cartoon Ambassador, which will promote Japanese culture through the cartoon industry.
"Doraemon" is the classic cartoon image created by late Japanese cartoonist Fujio Fujiko. Since the characters advent in 1969, its comic books and cartoons have been translated into dozens of languages and have attracted countless readers and audiences.
