A customs forum for Africa opened Tuesday here to modernize customs systems and promote trade on the continent.

As the first follow-up meeting to the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI) that ended in late May, the three-day forum is attended by customs officials from 17 Western and Central African countries.

The forum will focus on the initiative known as "one-stop border post," which is aimed at simplifying customs procedures and reducing trade costs between two countries by the joint establishment of border facilities.
