The chief nuclear negotiators of South Korea, the United States and Japan will meet in Tokyo this week to discuss when to resume the stalled six-party talks on the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, a foreign ministry official said Tuesday.

The envoys will rate the recent progress in efforts made by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Japan to normalize relations and discuss the timing of reopening the six-party talks during the meeting on Thursday, said the official requesting anonymity.

"South Korea's chief nuclear negotiator Kim Sook plans to leave for Tokyo tomorrow for the trilateral meeting," the Yonhap news agency quoted the official as saying.

"The chief U.S. envoy Christopher Hill will also visit Tokyo around that time," he added.
