Thailand's Democrat party plans to file an impeachment motion with the Constitution Court against Foreign Minister Noppadon for signing a statement with Cambodia to support Preah Vihear application as a World Heritage Site, party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said Thursday.

Abhisit said that the party would try to finish drafting the motion by Monday.

The effort is to prevent damage that would happen to the country, he said.

Academics, senators and others are concerned that the application, with the support from Thailand, would lead to legal complications when Thailand and Cambodia hold talks on the overlapping areas along the border in the future.

The Thai Cabinet on June 17 endorsed a new map of Preah Vihear temple prepared by Cambodia, and on June 18, Thai foreign minister Noppadon Pattama signed a Thai-Cambodian Joint statement which endorsed Thailand's support for Cambodia's application over the heritage bid.

Cambodia will present the map as a key document to UNESCO World Heritage Committee at a meeting in Canada next month and the World Heritage Committee will meet between July 2-12 to discuss the issue.
