Indonesian Government is planning to issue a decree regulating companies' operating hours in a bid to reduce electricity consumption, local media reported on Friday.

The regulation will assess the impact on industrial sectors, and other sectors including household goods.

The decree stipulates that companies, particularly those in the manufacturing industry, must schedule their operating hours to help ease periods of peak load endured by state electricity firm.

The three sectors which demand big electricity capacities for operation are textile, tyre production and plastic industry.

Associations of these industries objected to the government's plan, saying that they have already been limited in electric consumption for several years.

"Businessmen realize how to save the energy," Ade Sudrajat, the Head Deputy of Indonesian Textile Association was quoted by Business Indonesia daily as saying, "the decree is another burden for their operation."
