Thai Supreme Commander stresses politically neutral for military

Thailand's Supreme Commander Boonsang Niampradit on Wednesday said the military should maintain a neutral role and not to get involved in politics.

Boonsang's statement came after a general appeared in full uniform on an anti-government's stage twice.

Boonsang was quoted by the Bangkok Post's webnews as saying that soldiers should be politically neutral and to stand any difficulties arised, according to article 74 of the constitution.

However, the army does not prevent the soldiers' freedom of expression, he said. But soldiers should not use military uniform in an inappropriate way, he insisted.
