The Malaysian Navy has detained a Thai fishing boat for illegal fishing, local media reported on Monday.

The Thai boat with nine crew was detained about 130 nautical miles of Kuala Terengganu on Sunday, capital of Malaysia's Terengganu State.

The crew on the boat from Songkhla, southern Thailand, were detained for questioning, the reports said.

Under the Malaysian law, they would be fined from 100,000 ringgit (31,500 U.S. dollars) to 1 million ringgit (315,000 U.S. dollars) each, Malaysia's national news services Bernama said.
