Some 42 Tamill Tigers were killed during government troops sniper attacks, officials from the Defense Ministry said on Friday.

The sniper attacks targeted at rebels at Kilinochchi throughout Thursday accounted for the deaths of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres.

The rebels were on the run due to consistent attacks in the rebel administrative headquarters, the officials said.

In Kilinochchi's Kumurumunai area the advancing troops captured a rebel training facility with a large lecture hall and a communications facility.

Rebels have lost large chunks of territory in the present military thrust.

The military campaign was aimed at eradicating terrorism in the country, according to the officials.
