Two Thais were killed on Tuesday in two separate attacks by suspected separatist insurgents in Thailand's restive deep South.

A group of suspected militants gunned down a civilian in front of an electricity office of Bha-loo-ga sub-district, Waeng district, Narathiwas province, Thai language news agency INN reported.

Moreover, after killing the victim, they planted a bomb near the victim's body and the bomb exploded while security forces were about to investigate the civilian body.

The blast injured five security officials, including two police officers, two soldiers and a civil servant. They were immediately sent to hospital.

In a related development, a soldier was killed in a bomb attack by another group of suspected insurgents.

The incident occurred as four military officials were on their walking patrol on a road, which is used by teachers in Bha-ngo village, Bha-nan sub-district, Mayo district of Pattani province.

Police were now investigating at the scene.

Thailand's deep South comprises mainly the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwas, and some parts of Songkla province. Over 3,500 people have been killed in daily violent attacks by suspected separatists since January 2004.
