The French government said on Wednesday that search teams have found a signal from the flight data recorder of the Yemeni airliner with 153 people on board that crashed Tuesday into the Indian Ocean.

A spokesman for French Cooperation Minister Alain Joyandet said, "The black box's signal was located Tuesday at 4:30 pm local time (12:30 GMT), 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Grande Comore," adding that efforts to recover the recorder will begin Wednesday.

According to the spokesman, French rescue teams Wednesday joined in the search for survivors of the Yemenia airliner.
