Three people were killed Thursday in clashes over the desecration of a mosque in Mysore, Karnataka in southern India, reported Indo-Asian News Service.

The three died of stab wounds following the clash in Mysore, about 140 km from the state capital Bangalore, after worshippers found the carcass of a swine at a mosque, said the report quoting police sources.

Police banned the assembling of people in the area, fired teargas shells and caned the mob that gathered at the mosque to put the situation under control, said the report.

Police also have registered a case of unlawful act in a place of worship and hope to book the culprits soon, according to the report.
