The Nepali government has claimed that people will have to face power cuts of up to 10 hours a day in coming winter.
Last year people had to put up with 20 hours of load shedding a day during the driest season.
Nepal Electricity Authority had imposed 20 hours a day power cuts even when the public utility officially announced just 18 hours daily outage.
"We will try and bring down the power cuts to 8-10 hours a day this winter," Minister for Energy Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat was quoted by Sunday's myrepublica.com as saying.
"This will be possible through upgrading and maintenance of our existing projects and thermal plants, 50-60 MW additional power import from India and generation of a further 50-100 MW through the establishment of another thermal plant with a German grant, among other options," he added.
