Asian intellectuals on Wednesday shared their dream of united world civilization (UNIWOC) at a conference held in Indonesia, saying that it could be achieved if people know how to share.
"We are consisted of different cultures and communities, but that is the beauty of different. The question is how we live in such diversities in harmony? Civilization in unity will be reached if we know how to share," Alparslan Acikgenc, vice rector of Turkey's Fatih University told the 4th International Conference of the Asian Philosophical Association (ICAPA) 2009 here.
He said that in the end, nations should set up political structures by drawing no boundaries between them.
"It is animal that make boundaries to defend their territorial rights. But, we can learn how to share with knowledge and I hope that we can thus establish the UNIWOC," he said.
He also said that he has been dreaming of nations without army and guns, only police to guard security.
Choi Woo-Won, the President of The Asian Philosophical Association, said that so many people have the same dream.
"All religions teach the same concept of sharing. The spirit of harmony and mutual encouragement of life has characterized the long time-honored Asian cultural tradition. This spirit is symbolized in an idea of unifying heaven, earth and men," he said.
People, he said, should recognize the significance of the Asian ideal for the future of the world community.
"The great religious masters of Asia have always taught that we should take thought for others like our brothers and sisters," he said.
However, Didik J Rachbini, a prominent Indonesian economist who also as the chairman of Paramadina Foundation, a religious organization, said that the unity only could be achieved when there is no too wide economic gap between nations.
"Without strong economic foundation, it is impossible to achieve prosperity, which is one factor for unity between nations," he said.
Indonesia kicked off the three-day ICAPA conference Wednesday, in coordination with Turkey's University of Faith, Jaedong Philosophical Association of Korea and Pacific Countries Social and Economic Solidarity Association Indonesia.
The conference is conducted at the University of Indonesia, the biggest university in the country.
