Indonesian FM to attend APEC meeting next week

Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa will attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Singapore next week, the Foreign Ministry's Spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah told reporters in a press briefing on Friday.
"The minister will follow up the meeting by a formal visit to the country in relation with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's agenda," said Faizasyah.
He also said that following the meeting, there will be some bilateral meetings with friendly countries like Colombia, Canada, China and Papua New Guinea.
Faizasyah opened possibility of discussion about extradition pact that has yet to be signed between Indonesia and Singapore.
"In the occasion there will be discussed several issues. But, we can't talk about it now because we are preparing issues to be discussed," he said.
However, he said, since the extradition issue has yet to record a significant improvement, there is a possibility that it will be discussed in a bilateral meeting between Indonesia and Singapore.
Faizasyah stressed the importance of introducing the new Indonesian government in the meeting.
"Although we have the same old president, this is the second term he serves with his new cabinet. It's a tradition to visit friendly countries to introduce the new government," Faizasyah said.
The APEC 2009 meetings will culminate in the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM), where leaders of APEC's 21 member economies will meet from 14 to 15 November 2009.
