Malaysia to hold National ICT Month in July, August

The Second National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Month (NIM) 2010 will be held from July 13 to August 12 this year.

A total of seven core activities and premier events led by related government agencies will be organized in the campaign, co- organized by the Malaysian Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry and the National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM).

Maximus Ongkili, Malaysian Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, official kicked off the NIM 2010 near here on Monday.

The minister said in his speech that the ministry was very pleased to support the program together with PIKOM and other agencies, which would transform the reality of technology to become more apparent and relevant for businesses and the people.

"The National ICT Month allows us to focus our efforts collectively and draw attention to various ICT programs and initiatives driven by various parties, including private and public organizations and agencies."

Themed "E-Commerce for Global Reach", the campaign is aimed at championing the ICT industry and enriching the society.

The NIM 2010 is also expected to draw wider participation following the inclusion of events specifically tailored for smalll and medium enterprises, businesses across all industries and government agencies.

Meanwhile, a series of related activities will be launched from May to December this year to promote the use of ICT and to disseminate the latest information about the ICT industry.

PIKOM's chairman Wei Chuan Beng said that there were plans to run 15 seminars nationwide in cooperation with the SME Corp Malaysia, a body promoting the development of SMEs in the country.

Other major events under planning included the Business Success Forum, PIKOM Leadership Summit and the PIKOM PC Fair, a ideal venue for consumers to purchase affordable computers and accessories.
