Strong wind causes more casualties, damage in Myanmar

Strong wind with heavy rainfall, that continued to strike some parts of Myanmar in four days over the last weekend through to this Monday, have killed one more persons and caused loss and damage to the areas, an official daily said in a report Thursday.

The strong wind, that swept Magway division's Aunglan, and Hsinhaung townships, blew off roofs of some houses and schools with about 15 huts collapsed on April 23, according to the New Light of Myanmar.

In April 24's incident, roofs of some village schools and office buildings were also up-lifted with six huts collapsing in Shan state's Nanyun, Kunhing, Kengtung and Tangyan, killing the person.

The same day's tragedy in Nay Pyi Taw's Tatkon and Budalin killed two heads of oxen.

April 25's disaster in Shan state's Katha, Namauk, Kawlin, Wuntho, Tiddim and Kyaukme townships brought down lamp posts and spoiled some houses and schools.

April 26's wind strike in Magway division's Pakokku and Yesagyo and Mandalay division's Nyaung Oo, injured five people.

Prior to the last weekend, similar strong wind with heavy rainfall had struck Myanmar's Shan state and Mandalay division, especially on April 20, two children were killed and 18 others injured with loss and damages brought about to such areas as Muse, Kyukok/Pangsai, Kutkai, Laukkai, Kunlong and Lashio in Shan state, Nyaung U in Mandalay division and Tonzang in Chin state.

The authorities have warned people of the danger as such strong wind is forecast to occur for some times during the pre-monsoon season before June.

Strong wind with heavy rainfall had started to sweep some parts of Magway division, Nay Pyi Taw region and Chin state early this month, causing damage to certain extent.
