Indonesian former minister detained for alleged graft case

Former Indonesia's social affairs minister Bachtiar Chamsyah was detained on Thursday by investigators in the country's antigraft agency, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for allegedly involved in graft case conducted between 2006 to 2008 that cost the state some 15.7 billion rupiah (some 1.7 million U.S. dollars).
The detention against the former minister was conducted following hours of interrogation against Bachtiar at the KPK premises since morning.
From the results of investigation, investigators at the KPK learned that the former social affairs minister committed in the mark up of sarong and sewing machine procurements during his services as the minister.
The procurement on those things were part of his ministry's program to empower the low-income families in the country.
