Sri Lanka dispatches medical aid to Pakistani flood victims

Sri Lanka has dispatched a team of 16 medical support to treat the flood victims in Pakistan, the Ministry of Health announced here Tuesday.

The Deputy Director of the main children's hospital, Dr Vijith Gunasekera, heads the team which consists of two specialist doctors, four other doctors, six nurses, two pharmacists and two medical assistants. They will be working with the flood victims over a fortnight, officials added.

Sri Lanka had earlier sent two plane loads of dry rations.

The UN announced on Monday that as many as 3.5 million children are at risk from water borne diseases.

The floods have killed at least 1600 people - the worst natural disaster in Pakistan since its establishment in 1947.
