Solomon Islands elects new PM, NZ extends congratulation

"Solomon Islands is an important partner for New Zealand in the Pacific region. I look forward to working with Mr. Philip to further strengthen our relationship," Key said in a statement.
New Zealand remains committed to supporting sustainable economic development in a safe, secure Solomon Islands, he said.
Members of Parliament (MPs) in Solomon Islands voted new prime minister on Wednesday.
Philip, who won 26 votes, is the leader of the Solomon Islands Reformed Democratic Party and as an MP he represents Rendova Tetepare in Western Province.
In the past 15 years, he has also twice served as foreign minister.
