The Malaysian police have arrested three Vietnamese suspected of looting a jewelry shop about 10 days ago, local police said Wednesday.
Kuala Kangsar district police chief Abdul Ghafar Muhamad told reporters here on Wednesday that the trio, two men and a woman, were held within 24 hours after the shop was robbed.
According to the police, the suspects used an electrical grinder to break open the safety boxes in the shop and fled with them jewellery worth 200,000 ringgit (63,500 U.S. dollars).
Abdul Ghafar said that the suspects had tried to escape when the police conducted a raid on the house where they lived.
Cash amounting to 3,500 ringgit (1,111 U.S. dollars), jewelleries worth about 10,000 ringgit (3,175 U.S. dollars) and three Vietnamese passports were seized during the operation, said Abdul Ghafar.
Abdul Ghafar said that the police believed that the suspects had another two male accomplices who had escaped with other jewelleries.
