Fiji leader to inform UN on progress of government reform

Fiji Prime Minister Voreqe Commodore Bainimarama will attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York next month.

And his address will stress reforms and progress that Fiji is undertaking on its way to democratic governance.

Bainimarama told the Fiji Sun daily on Monday that Fiji would continue to inform world leaders of the government reforms currently underway to allow them to have a clear understanding of the progress made towards democratic rule.

He reiterated his plea with the international community to engage with the Government and support his roadmap to return to democratic rule in 2014.

"I will again plead for their support at this year's General Assembly that will be opened on Sept. 14," he said. "I will specifically tell them about Fiji's progress and also the time lines set in the Strategic Framework for Change and Roadmap to Democracy."

He said it was important for world leaders to understand the Fiji government's plan in the next four years.
