Indonesia vows to solve border dispute with Malaysia peacefully

Indonesia has decided to solve border dispute with Malaysia through diplomatic channel in a bid to avoid disturbing stability in the southeast Asian region, Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said on Thursday.
Indonesia which has been known as a problem solver, not a problem maker in the region, prefers to peaceful solution to the dispute, said Marty.
"All ASEAN member countries considers Indonesia as a country that can become an umbrella for the enforcement of stability in this region. This must be put on top priority," he said in Bali island after meeting with his Thai counterpart Kasit Piromnya.
The border dispute last month has sparked massive protests in both countries.
Indonesian police boosted security of the Malaysian mission offices and its diplomats.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Wednesday asked Malaysia to come to the negotiating table to end the dispute.
Indonesia is to take over the rotating presidency of the 10- member ASEAN next year.
The two countries plan to hold a meeting over the dispute in Kinabalu of Malaysia on September 6.
