Indian Army chief arrives in Sri Lanka

The chief of the Indian Army, General Vijaya Kumar Singh arrived here on Sunday, Sri Lankan military spokesman Major General Ubhaya Madawela said.
Singh is to meet Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne and service commanders during his five- day visit.
He was received at the airport by his Sri Lankan counterpart Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.
Singh is the highest ranking Indian military officer to visit Sri Lanka since the end to the war between Sri Lankan government troops and Tamil Tiger rebels in May 2009.
