National Police chief Gen Wichean Potephosri said that some 100,000 policemen would be on duty on July-3 election to ensure peace and security, local media reported Wednesday.

"Almost 100,000 policemen would be needed to some 90,200 polling stations nationwide," the police chief said.

Regarding the election campaign-related incidents, up to now 256 candidates have sought and received police guard after around 10 violent cases took place. Approximately 540 police officers have been assigned for the duty.

About 40 constituencies in 24 provinces are under a police watch list due to fierce competition.

In a related development, police have been monitoring social networks through some 200 websites which have spread campaign messages as a precaution to preempt violations of election laws.
