U.S. President George W. Bush signed a bill on June 30 granting Jordan an extra 450 million U.S. dollars in economic and military assistance for 2008 and 2009, Jordan's official news agency Petra reported on Tuesday.

Jordan will receive an extra 200 million dollars in economic assistance and 50 million dollars in military assistance for 2008.Another 200 million dollars are equally divided by the two items for 2009.

With this additional assistance, the total U.S. economic assistance for 2008 will reach 561.4 million dollars, Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Suhair Al-Ali said at a joint press conference with U.S. ambassador to Jordan David Hale.

Hale said this additional assistance from the American people would help Jordan's efforts to advance its economic and social development goals, as well as meet its security needs.
