A Canadian military policeman at a Middle East base was found dead in his dormitory Friday, officials said here Saturday.
Enemy action has been ruled out as the cause of the death of Cpl. Brendan Anthony Downey and results of investigations might not come out for months, Canada's military said in a statement.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper also released a statement Saturday to express sympathies to the family of the dead soldier.
Downey was posted to a Canadian base in the Arabian desert that provides logistical support to Canada's military operations in Afghanistan.
The base is located in the Persian Gulf region, but its exact location has not been revealed.
Downey is the 12th Canadian military death so far this year in connection to the Afghan mission.
