A cargo plane crashed Sunday in northern Mexico, killing the pilot and seriously injuring the co-pilot, authorities said.
The crash happened at 0:14 local time (0614 GMT) on the highway at Jose Lopez Portillo, some 12 km from Plan de Guadalupe airport in the city of Saltillo in Coahuila state.
The DC-9-15 plane of USA Jet Airlines was loaded up auto parts and was flying from Hamilton, Canada.
The authorities have found the plane's black box. According to first reports, the plane landed in an unpredictable way due to an engine failure, the federal Public Ministry and the Civil Aeronautic Authority said.
The plane split into at least four pieces in the crash, scattering debris across an area of about 600 meters in diameter.
The accident blocked the highway to the city of Monterrey.
