The United States hailed the positive diplomatic developments for Iraq on Monday as Gulf countries are appointing ambassadors to Iraq in the past few weeks.
"There have been a number of positive developments on the diplomatic front regarding Iraq over the past several weeks," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.
In addition to the announcement by the United Arab Emirates to appoint an ambassador to Iraq and reopen its embassy in Baghdad, Jordan is also appointing an ambassador and will open its embassy in Iraq soon, McCormack said, adding that Bahrain will do the same.
"These are all very positive developments and developments that only two years ago, none of us in this room were talking about and a lot of people doubted that they would actually occur," McCormack said.
"Iraq is starting to take its place once again in the region. That's important for the Iraqi people and it's important for Iraq and it's important for the region," McCormack added.
The United States has appealed Arab countries to improve relations with the Iraqi government headed by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.
