The U.S. military planned to deploy the third ship at the Black Sea at the end of August, the Navy said on Thursday.

According to a statement, the USS Mount Whitney, which is the flagship of the Sixth Fleet, would be sent to the region, where the guided missile destroyer USS McFaul and the Coast Guard cutter Dallas are stationed.

It said that the ship "is currently on-loading humanitarian relief materials in her home port of Gaeta, Italy, and will proceed to Georgia" to deliver relief supplies.

"The ships will deliver thousands of blankets, hygiene kits, baby food and infant care supplies to save lives and alleviate human suffering," the statement said.

According to the Pentagon, Russia has been informed about the U.S. ship deployment in the Black Sea, both "our activities and our intentions."

The U.S. military started to deliver relief supplies to Georgiaby transport planes last week, and has provided aid valued at 10.7million U.S. dollars since then.
