Ecuador's legislature on Tuesday urged Latin American countries to hold a meeting in the country on the situation in Honduras and its consequences for the region.
"The recent military coup in Honduras is an act of ignominy that affected not just the noble Honduran people but also the whole international community, which is astonished by such a shameless act," Fernando Cordero, president of the Ecuadoran Constituent Assembly, said in a statement.
The legislature has also called for reinstatement of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya who was ousted by a military coup on Sunday and was forced to Costa Rica.
Zelaya attended a summit of the Central American Integration System held in Nicaragua's capital Managua on Monday, and said he planed to pass through the U.S. capital on Wednesday and return to Honduras on Thursday.
Honduras' Attorney General Luis Alberto Rubi issued arrest warrants for Zelaya on Tuesday. Rubi said Zelaya would be arrested if he attempts to enter Honduras.
