U.S. President Barack Obama will attend the climate summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, scheduled for early next month, a senior official from the White House said on Wednesday.
Obama is due to be in Copenhagen on Dec. 9 before heading to Oslo to accept the Nobel Peace Prize, said the official, who asked not to be identified.
Representatives of about 190 countries will attend the 15th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) from Dec. 7 to 18 in Copenhagen.
The scheduled international meeting was designed to work out a new global climate change treaty on limiting emissions of greenhouse gases that would replace the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.
