An explosion took place Monday at a coal mine in Charleston, West Virginia without immediately report of any casualties, Massey Energy company said.
The company which operates the coal mine said the explosion occurred at its Upper Big Branch mine in Raleigh County, operated by company subsidiary Performance Coal Co.. No further details were available on any casualties, damage or if there were people trapped inside.
Emergency crews were being sent to the mine.
