Bolivian Foreign Minister David Choquehunaca said on Tuesday that the United Nations (UN) will provide a 44.1-million-U.S.-dollar fund to fight drugs, transnational crimes and corruption in the country.
During an event at the presidential office, Choquehunaca said the UN support "is a recognition of the work and effort made by the Bolivian government on fighting drug trafficking, corruption and organized crime."
Speaking at the same occasion, the UN new representative against Drug and Crime (UNDC) to Bolivia, Cesar Guedes, said the work of the UNDC is guided by several mandates from the conventions and agreements of the United Nations.
"In this context, the UNDC cooperated with the countries to take actions to reduce the drug supply and demand," he said.
Bolivia along with Peru and Colombia are the three main producers of coca leaves used for making cocaine in the world.
